About
The Semiotics
TYPOGRAPHY, PHOTOGRAPHY
This project explores the removable handle as an everyday object through the lens of semiotics, examining both its visual form and layered meanings. Commonly found in cookware and household tools, the removable handle represents adaptability allowing a single object to shift functions, save space, and respond to changing needs.
The research focused on its denotative role as a practical attachment mechanism and its connotative associations with flexibility, efficiency, and modular living. Its smooth attach and release system reflects thoughtful engineering while also suggesting a broader cultural move toward multifunctional design.
Through photography and black and white image type studies, the project investigates how a utilitarian object can communicate ideas of transformation and versatility. By pairing imagery with carefully selected typography, the work highlights how design can reveal deeper narratives within ordinary products.
